He had played 6 First Class games going into that Test I think. That's ridiculous.

Glenn McGrath played 8 FC games before his Test debut. Does anyone mock the Australian selectors for picking him?

Yeah, but McGrath is actually good.

Gun username btw.

Very tall, 80-85mph, good control, why can't he be the next Mcgrath. Not saying that he will be, just saying that both picks were with an equal amount of optimism.
McGrath has more than good control, he has well..........

Let SS do the rest.

Yes, yes I know, but did he display that all in his first match. I am not implying at all that Ishant Sharma is going to be anywhere near McGrath in any way, but both have started off after relatively no prior FC experience with just height and good control.

That goes without saying, but unless the ones questioning Sharma's selection were witness to how McGrath and Sharma both bowled in those handful of FC matches before their Test debuts, and could satisfy for themselves that McGrath was much better than Sharma at that stage, they really have no basis for slamming the latter selection while upholding the former.
