*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

Norwood's on Fire
Dominance needs to be reflected in goals, Liverpool were good in the first half but in the second half they lost their way for a while when they should have been going for it. I believe that the best team lost, but the best team lost in 2005. These things happen in football.

Liverpool weren't really that much better than Milan thou. They might've had the position of the ball but didn't create much chances. Gerrad was the only one who looked like scoring.
But agree about best team losing in 2005 thou...Milan should've been up by at least 5 goals in the first half.

Hardly a "great season" for a club of Liverpool's history. No-one remembers runners-up.
Games aren't played in history. Games are played in the present. And at present, Chelsea and Man Utd. are streets ahead of anybody else in England. So for a side that's a distant 3rd in their own country to reach a final of a competition made up of most of the leading sides in Europe is a fair effort.

Villa only managed a bottom half finish. Would you say they had a bad season because of their history?

Exactly. History means **** all. Look at Forest or Leeds. Just because they happen to have been excellent teams in the past doesn't mean that if and when they get promoted back up the divisions it won't be an excellent achievement.

No, because people tipped Liverpool to challenge for the league at the start of the season.

Fact is, they didn't, the flattered to decieve.

If Rafa can get the funds to buy all the big name players that have been linked to Liverpool they will be a really powerfull outfit next season.

Things not sound too good for the gunners though with Baptista going & rumors of Henry & Fabregas probably leaving.

How so?

If they wanted to keep him, they would put in a bid for him to buy him, otherwise they are not so I don't see how it can be "not good" and likewise for Jose Antonio Reyes, where it seems he is going back as well. Cesc Fabregas leaving is about as likely as Cristiano Ronaldo joing Real Madrid or Barcelona next season and if Arsenal wanted to sell Thierry Henry they would have done so by now. And this is the bit I don't understand, if they are both under contract (in the case of Fabregas, another 7 years) then how can somebody say they are 'leaving' when it is the club that decides to sell them, unless they wanted to do what Andy Webster did to Hearts. And Fabregas can't do that for a long time anyway.

Didn't Real actually buy Reyes though? They did the swap-loan thing but i swear Real went out and actually bought him shortly after.

Anyone seen England 30-man provisional Under 21 squad:

Ben Alnwick
Lee Camp
Derby County
Scott Carson
Joe Hart
Leighton Baines
Gary Cahill
Andrew Davies
Anton Ferdinand
Justin Hoyte
Matt Kilgallon
Nedum Onuoha
Liam Rosenior
Steven Taylor
Peter Whittingham
David Bentley
Lee Cattermole
Tom Huddlestone
Michael Johnson
James Milner
Mark Noble
Nigel Reo-Coker
Kieran Richardson
Wayne Routledge
Gabriel Agbonlahor
Matt Derbyshire
Leroy Lita
Luke Moore
David Nugent
James Vaughan
Ashley Young

Suprised to see Theo Walcott not in the squad, but overall even without him & Richards (even though he may not have been selected anyway) looks a very strong squad.

How old do you have to be to stop qualifying for under-21? Baines turned 22 in December and Nugent this month.

Anyway hands up for all those who thinks the Becks should be picked 2moro?.

We all know what my answer is & i have good reason too given his performances for Real Madrid since he came back from injury, and in no attempt to overexaggerate my great hope of his recall i think its the best form he has been in since legendary Treble season. Maybe him being axed was just what he needed because has its been said he shown himself to be a real professional at Real Madrid in recent weeks.

People have been saying he shouldn't be picked because of his age, can't see how that can be a problem especially when he is playing so well especially, because he is going to LA Galaxy in a few months don't buy that either even though McClaren won't get to see him alot (although maybe BSKYB may start showing MLS) he has played in two of the best leagues in the world, with 2 fantastic clubs, with some legendary players for so long, can't see how playing in America will suddenly make a less of player it IMO would make him a standout & once he gets back into the international arena he would be able to adapt.

Finally because he has no pace, well since he was dropped we have been playing our best central mid-fielder out on the right & using his so called replacement in cameo sub appearances. Not to say that Lennon is poor but he needs to improve his crossing before he can become a first team player.
