at CWBCC Stadium
Match report courtesy of Justin Rodgie
As Green players descended upon CWBCC Stadium in the morning the sense of anticaption was amazing what was to follow was some even better cricket the day started with Cowan being dismissed early on by the ever reliable Rose, Mitchell too got into the act when he dismissed last season stalwart Malone. Rodgie and Scott then went about rebuilding a mess when they carefully and reliably smashed Halsey to all parts of the ground, with figures of 9-0-1-56 it was not Halsey's day, Rodgie and Scott brought up patient fifties before both throwing their wickets away to both Halsey and Rose. Dubb- Lynch got a start but delivered a catch to Green captain Garven off the bowling of Mitchell, Forner then went about destroying the lower order in a show of his wares in a spell that will keep keen Green observers looking out for the talented youngster. 10/267 seemed about par on this timid pitch.
Anthony Lezama the wicket-keeper batsmen showed a force to be reckoned with with a patient 116(241) with various contributions around him from Hogarth, Read and Rose who was left stranded on 42, 10/259 just 8 runs shy of the Malone XI. Cunningham and young gun Speirs were the pick of the bowlers both picking up 3 wickets apiece.
Cowan,Scott and Rodgie quickly disappeared into the pavilion at the commencement of the 2nd innings, it all seemed rosy for the Garven XI before a masterclass by Malone and Rookie Corrin stole the show both battling their way to crucial 70's. Cunningham and Cameron then went about building one of the best partnership's in Green history when they compiled 155 runs for the 10th wicket, and Cunningham ended up with 113*(128) crucial runs while, Andy "Pigeon" Cameron stole the show from Number 11 with 55*(135). With 9/435 the game was in the Malone XI hands.
With 444 runs required a good start was needed Cameron and Cunnigham destroyed any hope with 1 wicket a peice late on day 3. What was to follow was special Lezama and Garven offered resistance in both compiling 50's as did talented NSW all-rounder Henriques in compiling 88, that was to be the end with Cameron ripping through the rest of the order in a work man like fashion in picking up 8/62 off 24 hard working overs.
