Red squad takes shape

Erik Raude made a late appearance on Nixontown TV tonight, announcing the signing of four new Red members for the coming seasons. Norwegian-born wicket-keeper Håkon Mørk, who was also revealed to be the successor to Dave Watt as Red captain, has secured a four-year deal at the B level, while bowlers Sean Bennett, Kingsley "Clapo" Clapham and Gaurav Nayak have signed for three years (B), two years (E) and two years (E), respectively.

This brings the total of signed Reds up to eight, with negotiations ongoing with a number of top-class players.

And on the last-night news, Test quickie David Kennett has agreed to a three-year deal at the A level. The seamer will be 33 years old at the end of the contract.

In even later news, another Test-playing David has agreed to an A level contract; former Black player David Kearsley agreed to a four-year tenure, boosting the middle order considerably.

Very happy to sign on with the Reds, looking for bigger and better things from the squad this year.

CW Red bowler Sean Bennett is said to be ecstatic with his new contract with the club. Speaking to the hobo who stands on the corner outside Bennett's caravan home outside Reds training ground selling the Big Issue, Bennett was quoted as saying "I couldn't be happier with the deal. It's a dream come true." The hobo then submitted the piece to the Big Issue, as there's nothing better to write about in a homeless peoples magazine.

Bennett, the latest exponent of Cameron White's mystery ball, which starts straight and slow and continues straight and slow, will be kept at Reds for 3 seasons before the inevitable downgrading to C in the contract ratings.

CW Red Left Armer Kingsley Clapham has today confirmed the rumours that he has signed for CW Red for another two years. Clapham, who made a shock debut for the CW XI ODI team against pakistan just weeks ago said he was delighted to have secured such a Gun deal with the Reds, and was looking foward to creating havoc with the ball behind the Dynamic David Duo.

Raude also stated that last season rookies Manjunath Reddlapalli and Matt Luff have both agreed to two-year C Level deals. Both will be regarded as key cogs as the Red side chase runs in the coming first-class season.

BARNES OUT
Major announcement from the ranks of CW Black.

The Dam finally breaks

CW Black captain Dan Smith held a press conference with heavy news from the ranks. He announced that despite his loyalty and long-service to the club, the Black management would not be pursuing the signature of Black all-rounder Callum Thompson. "I know he's been around Black for a long time and has provided many seasons of loyal service to the club, but with the new contract system in place something had to give. We feel that despite his service, "Thommo's" commitment to the club had waned over the last few seasons and that showed somewhat in his performances as well."

"It's not been an easy decision for me and the management group here at the club." he went on to say. "I've been under pressure from all sides and have had a multitude of opinions come in from different sides and angles. In the end, we had to cut someone from the places where the club, and the competition, have the most depth. We've got some good young talent in the all-rounder department and feel Callum had given all he'd been able to give."

He finished by saying "I really hope one of the other clubs grabs his signature, he's a great player and bloke and deserves to keep playing cricket in the Dev League. Unfortunately, we had to let him go but I hope there's no hard feelings. He's a good mate and I wish him all the best in the future."
