He is class, there's no doubt about it. The article doesn't mention that he's been banned for a fair portion of six months in which he hasn't scored a try either. Clearly tho, as they have to operate under the cap which the Super 14 franchises don't, any NRL team would be mad to spend that sort of money on him & his (apparant) hawking of himself round the NRL can't be doing wonders for his standing with his team-mates @ the Tahs. He clearly still has rep ambitions tho, becuase if it was solely about the money he'd be better off coming to Europe.
Banned for five games, which included only 1 Test Match.

Well maybe, but he's only actually gone about 6 or 7 games without a try. Doesn't sound as bad as 6 months tho, does it?
However long, I think the broader point is that although he's been fairly good in Rugby, he's hardly been a smashing success. And I think people's memories are a bit rose-coloured in terms of how good he was in Rugby League. He was a very good winger. Nothing more, nothing less.

Looks like the Sharks and Souths could be the only ones to be able to afford Lote Tuquiri. My question is, how do Souths always stay under the salary cap?

Interesting that people have been saying that the GC have money under their cap and that they havent paid the players they have a great deal, but Michael Searle came out yesterday and said they were on their cap limit... Maybe they did pay overs for alot of players..

hard to say, they bought a lot of players who were regular/fringe first graders, these guys dont come cheap. They arent NRL rookies on $30k a season, you'll find even guys like Kris Kahler, Michael Hodgson and Michael Henderson etc... are all on fairly good money.

Well if souths get him, we know that its rigged somewhere, cause the money that was talked about that they threw to Asotasi and Vagana isnt small...

I think you'll find that a lot of fringe 1st graders went there for less money to get a chance at a regular 1st grade spot. I think Bailey and Campbell signed for a lot less then what they could have got somewhere else, still got decent money. Rogers and Prince would be the only ones on really high wages probably. But then again i know that Nathan Tutt tried to sign for them, but they pretty much said they can't offer him much, as they are close to the salary cap, with Rogers' potential signing at that time.

I think Souths would be similar to GC, with a lot of cheap back up players. I know in the past Manly signed a lot crap/cheap back up players to stay under the salary cap, when they first started again as the Sea Eagles, so they had room to move once they got more money. Souths have pretty much done the same thing, a handful of really good players and then a lot of crap players who wouldn't make some Premier League sides.

no way is Bailey on a small wage, he would have to be their highest paid player. If anyone is only a slightly less contract it's Campbell...

If they really are close to their cap then they have some players that are over paid, cause that squad in general is not worth 3.5m

Surely Prince and Rogers would be their highest paid players?
