I think he's serious about coming back, he's bored in Union and can you blame him, he hardly see's the ball. I'd imagine he knows he's going to have to take a significant pay cut to return to league but if he gets a good offer from a suitable club i think he'll take it.

Good to see Alan Tongue chosen as Captain for the Raiders. I believe he is the right man to lead us through these rebuilding stages.

I don't know about the Dragons having three captains, but them Melbourne has the likes of Kidwell, Smith, and Hill all captaining at some point so I guess it works.

That said Gasnier must have one of the cheesey grins in the sport, about as bas as Michael Clarke came into the Australian team.

What's up with all these clubs having 3 captains? Seems unnecessary to me, give the captaincy to one guy and if he needs a rest then give him the rest and promote the vice-captain.

Due to the large number of experienced players that leave to England ever year, there is not always player ready to take over full time. In the case of Melbourne, Smith is probably the best option but his probably not ready to take it on full time.

Dragons it is a bit the same but Gas and Ryles could take it full time if they like. But it allows them to ease into the role. Especially at a club like Dragons where its pretty much all or nothing.

Also the interchange rules play a part, as last season there was a lot of times where Orford was captaining Manly anyway when BK was off the field. I've seen games where sides have had three captains in one game, even if there is only one official captain.

Seems ridiculous to me, but that's just my opinion. Team's should stick with the one "official" captain and if he needs to leave the field or miss a game, name an interrim.

Well the fact that some clubs don't know how just on individual player will go as captain, give it to three people who can share the responsibility, which is why i'm surprised that only one Raiders player was named.

its a stupid fad that was started by the Swans and they just happened to win the AFL flag the year they did it. For some reason its become popular in the NRL, but i cant see it lasting, most teams will end up adopting a one captain policy after a year or so, i'll be surprised if Hornby doesnt captain at least 17 or 18 games for the Dragons anyway this year, same with Smith for Melbourne.

It got started a couple years back by Parramatta when they had Jason Cayless and someone else were duel captains. Cayless captained most of the matches, as i think that season he got Kiwi captaincy.

would have been Nathan Cayless, but the Storm's reasoning last year was that to have a leadership group of more than 2 captains worked so well for the Swans they'd try it.

St George Illawarra also did it a few years ago with Craig Smith and Nathan Brown...

Some interesting Trial Results last night...

Titans beat Parra for their first win 22-10

Dogs beat the Dragons 26-16

Sharks beat Souths 24-4

Broncos beat Canberra 18-12 - Interesting this one as the Raiders website stated that the Canberra team was a full strength team and the Broncos side was made up of 9 Redcliffe players and 9 Broncos reserves..

Tigers beat Souths Logan 20-10 - Marshall returned for a 20 minute stint near then end and apparently looked sharp and despite bulking up hadnt lost any speed.. Also Keith Galloway was again super apparently after getting the MOM against the Roosters last week...

The Storm also played Manly but not sure of the result there...

haha yeh Broncos with about 10 games of first grade experience between them beat a full strength Raiders side, it's only a trial but the Raiders should be worried.

Manly won, but given the players Melbourne put out, it was hardly surprising.

Looks like we did a fair bit of experimenting ourself, but we did have a lot more first graders that played 20 odd minutes throughout the match. Looks like Lyon was in pretty good form playing at 5/8. Will be keeping my eye out of for Michael Barni, apparently his got some talent.

Well apparently Melbourne centre/winger Israel Falou is one to watch, he is only 17 and is 1.90m tall and weights in at 97kgs, the guy is built like a tank.

He has been compared to Lote Tuquiri and Paul McGregor.

Pretty spot on this article about Lote. Grossly inflated asking price. Can't believe any club would even consider it. He's hardly turned the Wallabies (or even looked like doing so) into any sort of a decent team. You'd want to have the ability to turn a team's fortunes around (like a Lockyer or Johns) to command anywhere near that sort of money.

He is class, there's no doubt about it. The article doesn't mention that he's been banned for a fair portion of six months in which he hasn't scored a try either. Clearly tho, as they have to operate under the cap which the Super 14 franchises don't, any NRL team would be mad to spend that sort of money on him & his (apparant) hawking of himself round the NRL can't be doing wonders for his standing with his team-mates @ the Tahs. He clearly still has rep ambitions tho, becuase if it was solely about the money he'd be better off coming to Europe.
