Souths 5th? are you kidding or just trying to look like a genius should the impossible happen?
They don't have a bad squad this season i reckon they will be around the top 8. But mainly trying to look like a genius and not go for easy choices. I can see a few sides pulling off something this year, it should be a pretty even comp.

No, they don't have as bad a squad...

It still looks pretty weak when you compare it to most other teams imo...

yeh thats exactly right, same with titans, sure they have some decent players but overall their squad is one of the poorest...

don't know what's going on there. They aren't actually called 'New Zealand' either. That was just a marketing campaign back in 02/03 when the Warriors were on fire to try and get people from all over the country to jump on the bandwaggon...

Anyway, not the best of starts for us.

Eels (h)
Broncos (h)
Storm (a) 12pm? Seriously?
Sea Eagles (a)
Cowboys (h)

The Eels have been our bogey team for the last few years so that will be a tough one...
Broncos home will obviously be hard
Storm away will also obviously be hard
Sea Eagles away won't be easy
Cowboys home we should win, but the Cowboys seem to hit the ground running.

Then again, there aren't too many easy games in the NRL...

Realistically I think we should be targeting 3 wins from our first 5 and if we manage that we will be away and almost certainly make the 8 imo. I think we only won 3 out of our first 11 last season and that cost us a spot in the 8.

btw Simon I think the quote was - 'Tigers to go out in straight sets'
Would be 2pm Melbourne time.

I agree about the Warriors, just some more consistency and you never know as talent is certainly there. As for the 'Vodafone Warriors', it is no different here on the radio when they interview Michael Searle usually 1-2 weeks and the presenter always calls them the 'Jetstar Gold Coast Titans'.

And if Chris Walker gets a contract do people expect him to do anything or not?

Apart from missing 10-15 tackles a game and bomb a thousand tries... Not really...

And living on the Gold Coast he is in perfect place to have a pub boxing match and chat up some female model/actor/whatever who has made a 'home movie'   :naughty:

I think you'll find there are a lot of sides that will fall into that boat really. There are not too many sides you can say have great depth.

hmm i dunno, even the teams that have lost a few players or arent exactly premiership contenders have young players who would be considered the next generation of stars, look at teams like Roosters, Dragons, Raiders, Knights, sure their depth is limited but they the pick of the young talent outside what i consider a clear cut top 3 in brisbane, canterbury and melbourne.

I agree when it comes to the Dragons and Knights, but really both will rely a lot on Johns and Head staying on the field for mine. But they do have talent coming through its just if that talent is ready for 1st grade which is the big question. Roosters had a lot of good younsters running around last season, but it did look like a few were about two seasons from 1st grade level. Also i think they still have big issues in the halves. Raiders not sure, most of their success the last couple season has been getting the most out of average players, so to speak. They do have some good youngsters but haven't they also lost the experience of Smith, Clinton, Woolford and Crocker. Looks like they might be relying too much on the young talents of their forward pack and Todd Carney.

actually, pretty much everyone in the media over here call them the Vodafone Warriors...
God, that's woeful. It's like them trying to call The Oval "The Brit Oval" over here. Sport has really sold its soul.

Anyway, is anyone running an NRL tipping comp this year? I won it at a canter last year...

On talk back radio here they always refer to the teams by the sponsor's name. Its been like that for a long time also.

That's really shocking. We get (or got as Sky have lost the coverage now :() Aussie commentary on NRL games & I'd honestly never noticed it on that.

yeh and thats wy the Raiders will probably struggle and finish in the bottom four. Their team isnt full of stars but the forward pack in particular have some excellent players, theres at least three potential rep players in Weyman, Learoyd Lahrs and Tilse, add Josh Miller, Alan Tongue and Troy Thompson and its not the weakest pack in the NRL. For me it depends who plays in the halves and how they go, Carney is another future rep player and will play in 6, Michael Dobson should be halfback but i believe Henry will give first crack to Dunneman which is a mistake.

Outside backs are light on, but in Phil Graham, William Zillman, Colin Best they have some decent players. Watch out for Bronx Goodwin at fullback this season, he was a very prominent member of the Sharks Flegg team that made the grand final about three years ago and hes going to step up this year.

1) could see this happening
2) I don't think it will be a definitive success or failure
3) I think Souths will be 10th-14th
4) lol I was going to predict the same thing! Hope not though.
5) The only one that definetly won't happen. Benji has only played two tests and is still young. He should be a future kiwi captain, but there are lots of guys ahead of him in terms of leadership ability atm. It will probably go to Kidwell...
