CW Round Table?

I think they are fitter, but are they cricket fitter? The fast bowlers seem to get injured more then ever, as compared to the old county pros, who played six days a week
Isn't it due to the fact that they have to play a much more compititive game + They have to play a lot more .
And what do you think, how a present team will deal with any decent team from hmmmm lets say 60's ?

I still haven't been arsed to buy a internet phone, but I do have a question:

Why are we (as in England) so unutterably cack at one-day cricket? We play more of it in our domestic season than any other of the main 8 test nations and yet we're very comfortably the worst exponents of it on the international stage. Is it simply a question of personnel or a deeper malaise?

For one, England doesn't play 50-over cricket domestically. For two, the right players aren't picked by the selectors.

Just on the fast bowlers from the 1960s Wes Hall, big Charlie, Davidson, Trueman and Peter Pollock would give a good account of themselves, especially if they played under the 60s rules. No helmets, no bouncer limit, no bats that give sixes even to mi****s, and some pretty dead pitches.

My team (I may miss someone as this is just off the top of my head:wub:)

Boycott
Lawry
Kanhai
G. Pollock
Barrington
Sobers
Lindsay (wk)
Davidson
P. Pollock
Hall
Prassana

And my team

Brian Charles Lara (want him to open)
Sachin Ramesh Tends (Of prime time)
Laxman (The best player for this spot IMHO)
Ricky Ponting (c)
Jacques Kallis (Want him there)
Gilly (wk)
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis/Murali (12th)
Shane
Shoaib
Glen
Well tbh Shoaib can make minced meat outta batsmen with no protection ..... But you know what I thought twice and I guess your team is gonna win due to "walk over" because my sissy batsmen are not gonna come out to keep their careers rolling and to avoid any potential injury ..
Alas (What a stupid law it is i.e. restriction on bouncers ) !!!

Team from the nineties on would be:

  1. Hayden
  2. Langer
  3. Dravid
  4. Sachin
  5. Lara
  6. Kallis
  7. Gilchrist
  8. Akram
  9. Ambrose
  10. McGrath
  11. Murali or Warne (if it was Warne, he'd bat higher obviously, at #9).

I'd put that team against yours any day Archie.

Warne at 9 is a decent tail TBH. But with Murali instead of Warne, yea the tail would be a bit long, but that middle order would run amok IMO.

My school mates used to get a thick book and they used to play some sort of a cricket by opening it with eyes shut and kept on noticing the last digit of the page number (the one with even number ) and on a separate sheet they used to write down the names of eleven players . And if upon opening the book (blindly) the last digit came zero then the batsman was considered as out .
S/S please mail me the sheet afterwards !!!

I suppose, but playing in the 60s with no helmets, I imagine not too many will be added by lesser batsman
I remember Hanif Mohammad saying that at the end of the day almost all the batsmen had blue spots all over their middle and lower body .. And Archie do you remember that one incident when India toured Westindies then a bouncer of hmmmmmm forgot the name (actually don't want to embarrass the EPO board by spelling it wrong) ,which almost ended the life of a famous Indian batsman of that time .
I guess "skull hat" idea of Gavaskar was a revolutionary idea. Plus I guess there were so many ethical issues in those days for example not bowling short stuff to the tail enders , Not bowling bouncers too often and bla bla . And if any one went beyond the ethical boundaries then we witnessed body line things and that under arm thing and bla bla .Plus I guess being wrong while being in the legal limits is a possibility and we recently saw a disgraceful case in England.......
Cricket has revolutionized (Both positively and negetively ) and it's a lot different !!!!

Yes all true mate, although Hendren had a funny sort of three peaked protective cap in the 1930s, made by his wife
