How about Taylor and Astle opening? It might be worst or the best. Why cant we try?
Are we already trying to ruin Taylor?. Jeez, I thought it would take longer than this.

If we choose someone who regularly opens at domestic level, then you have a list of

Ryder
Cumming
Papps
Vincent
How
J Marshall
M Parlane

Surely we can find someone from that lot without putting Taylor up to open.

Or you could just go with Astle and Fleming. Why is that such a taboo option? They both have fine ODI opening records.

I guess its because they are our two most experienced batsman and if they both get out early then the rest of the line up seems to fall away.

It just looks better with Fleming at 4 imo.

Lou Vincent is on 57 no from 58 balls today. He may be spotting his chance with McCullums form and thinking, its now or never. No5 batsman if ever I saw one.

I think he is a 4 as well but with a top order of Ryder, Astle, Taylor, and Fleming there is no room for him and so he has to move from 4 down to 5. He and Fleming can chop and change if need be.

Currently 76no . god I hope he gets a big hundred so Braces has to at least look at him for the Aus series.

I suppose the one benefit with vincent is that he has been around a while so there is no need for him to be rushed over on a plane to gain experience, he could be chosen anytime before the world cup whereas if Ryder is not chosen soon he will be too inexperienced to take to the world cup. Probably too late already.

Bad news for the BC's, Styris pulled a calf muscle this morning, and won't be considered for the rest of the Tri-Series. On the plus side, big Jake hit 70 and took 2 for 40 yesterday, and he'll be on the Sunday flight to Adelaide, provided he doesn't break down with any new injuries. Lulu Vincent also seems to be making a late bid for an opening spot. 100 not out at the moment. I reckon he or Craig Cumming needs to be flown over at some point during the series. McCullum, while not short of talent, is not an opener.

How long will Styris be out for.? A full on calf tear or just a strain or something. Cmon Lulu.
Didn't say, the only thing I heard is that apparently he won't be considered for the rest of the Tri-Series, although I think that may be more precautionary than anything. In any case, the good news is that it has absolutely no connection to his more serious back injury. Just really annoying it had to come now when our batting so badly needs him.

I just read in the cricket web news page, that Bond will probably not be playing in the next game which makes a lot of sense. But the interesting thing was that the news item said Taylor and Franklin will also miss the next game against Aus because of cramps and fitness problems respectively. Do we have 11 fit players to take the field????. I suppose H Marshall will come in for Taylor, Mason and Adams for Bond, and Franklin.........

Lord have mercy on us...

Prediction

M Mason 10 overs , 238 runs, 0 wickets.
A Adams 10 overs , 178 runs , 0 wickets.

H Marshall 42, batting at his favoured no3.

Australia to win by more than 200 runs.

I haven't heard anything about Franklin and Taylor missing the next game, and it would be odd considering that neither one of them had any major difficulties in recovering from the Australian game, to play the England match. Nor have I found any mention of that on any other cricket news web pages. Might just be a general comment on how they struggled in the first game, so I wouldn't rule them out of the side yet.

In any case, it doesn't sound like Scotty's injury is too serious at all. Just read an article on TVNZ, and apparently he will resume training tomorrow and is still planning on making a trip to Australia.

Sweeping a 150 kph delivery eh?

Don't much like his style, but England certainly need someone who can score runs in the early overs.
