Not necessarily an impediment to playing for NZ tho, judging by the size of McMillan's arse. He's never been svelte, but seems to have spent most of his time out of the team in the pantry.
 True. He has his diabetes to fall back on, but you're right, it's bloody enormous

no.

We batted like complete crap.
Well granted it has been a long time since 200-210 has been an adequate score in an ODI. However that's where England's batting took them too. If they had scored 240 then yes your batting would have lost it for you, but they didn't. Once you had batted the game was there for your bowling and fielding to win or lose.
England won because late in the game Flintoff was able to slowly and cautiously edge the total forward rather than slog (he tried it once and was dropped on the boundary, he didn't try it again). In a game of inches runs scored off no-balls made the difference.

A fully fit and firing Oram, (which by all accounts he is now) is a big asset to the team. Granted his ODI batting average is low but he's always batted down the order and come in during the slog.
39 of his 66 innings have been at 6 or higher - that's hardly "down the order"

Also, his 2 best averages by position are 7 and 8...

The pluses (Fred, Anderson, Strauss until he got sawn off & Collingwood's bowling) arguably outweighed by the negatives (dreadful batting by the rest of the top 6, Vaughan's injury, Lewis being unfeasibly expensive in a low scoring match).
Bell got 45 - was it a very scratchy one then?

Yeah, he was dropped by McCullum early on, and was nearly caught behind again a few overs later. Then he got bogged down against the spinners and was eventually out.
Whether it's ODIs or Tests Bell seems to need a few lives to score anything substantial against non-minnows.

New Zealand have very serious problems. Bracewell has got the mix of the lineup completely wrong. Vettori is barely a ODI 8, let along a 7, McMillan is (in all honesty) obese and a liability when it comes to running and the time has come to end the McCullum experiment. How many more runs might New Zealand have scored had McCullum been batting down the order with the tail, rather than throwing his wicket away against the new ball?

They'll be helped by the return of Oram and Scotty, but until then there need to be changes.

Astle
Fleming
Taylor
Fulton
Marshall
McMillan
McCullum
Franklin
Vettori
Gillespie
Bond (if fit)

Even then that side has serious limitations, and I'm extremely nervous about exposing both of our most experienced batsmen to the new ball. And I know, that's VERY harsh on Patel, but we do need 3 seamers to navigate the first 20 overs and have something left for the death. And the batting is a shambles, and we need to bolster it with something, even something as unsubstantial as Hamish Marshall. We'll be able to bring Patel back into the side once Scotty and Oram are back. Franklin bats at no. 7 for his province, and if he wants a show of keeping his spot in the team once the regulars come back, he's gonna have to prove he can win games with bat as well as ball. If he comes in early enough, then I'd be tempted to bat him above McCullum, to give him a bit of time to bat himself in. Bats above Vettori, as seems better at coping with the pressures of ODI cricket.

Dear New Zealand selectors,

Please play your best players from now on. Please send an SOS to Scott Styris to help our pathetic middle order. Daniel Vettori is not, nor ever will be, the answer to our batting problems. Please do not bat Hamish Marshall at 6 in the order; it's truely mind-blowing that's he's considered a "finisher", when he has virtually no ability to clear the ropes. Please look at what type of players other countries use in this position.

And what has McMillan does to deserve a recall? What has he done since? Please drop him as soon as reasonably practicable (i.e., when Styris arrives).

But most of all, please tell me why someone averaging 17 opening the batting continues to do so. And please tell me why said player is underperforming given the amount of talent he has. Please tell me why suddenly our batting hopes are all pined on Ross Taylor. Is he that good? Or are we that desperate? That latter, I would think.

Please have a settled bating order for the world cup. And please, for the love of God, work with the scientific community to clone Shane Bond.

and to think you COULD have beaten England in that last match, with the amount of opportunities you had late on in their innings

Well said Macka. Good common sense put to paper from an obviously frustrated but passionate fan. Can we ask the scientific community to genetically modify Shane Bond into a less-injury prone, slightly quicker version?...(OK, that last bit might be a bit too much to ask)
