Pietersen hit more runs and at a faster rate than Ponting, Hussey and Hayden, and more runs than Gilchrist. Flintoff scored at a quicker rate than all of the Australia top 4. Vaughan scored at a quicker rate than Hayden and Clarke. England hit more 6s than Australia.

I suggest you watch the game next time.
But they cruised to victory young padawan, Ponting and Clarke had no reason to bat overtly 'aggressively'. And lets not kid are selves because if Australia or any other decent one day side had batted first on this track, 270-280 would be a minimum. Yet will conspired to make 240 odd look challenging and ridiculously tough going.

Please tell me where I said Pietersens batting was slow and uninspired. I was referring to England on the whole. To score 240 on that absolute flat track was a poor effort for an international team.

Australia scored as many runs as England in 5 less overs. Now unless my brain can't unravel such a noodle scratcher I'd say Australia scored quicker than England!

Oh, and Pietersen didnt hit more runs than Ponting mate. I suggest you watch the game next time ;)

Oh, and I love how you listed Hussey in there even though he didn't even bat today.

And in that 'England-did-better-than-Australia' post...You forgot one thing my friend....Australia won!

I'm not saying at all that England were the better side, Australia totally outplayed them. I was just taking into question the fact that England were slow.

The games between England and New Zealand take on great significance, given the chasm that Australia have built between them and the rest of the field. We're definitely one of the better ODI teams in history, I'd suggest. Certainly, NZ are favourites to make the finals over England, especially now given Pietersen's departure. However, at least there was some purpose to England's batting today. Dalrymple and Panesar looked good too.

To be honest, England don't really have a chance. NZ's greatest vulnerability is their batting....and England don't really have the bowlers to exploit that. I couldn't believe how rubbish Anderson was today.

If England do win a match this summer it will be against the Kiwis, but alot of things are going to have to go their way.

Incidentally, this was Punters 100th victory as Aussie skipper. Magnificent effort, becomes the man to achieve this feat the quickest and needs only 8 wins to take over Border to become the most winningest one day captain in history.

They batted slower than they could, but not slow, difference there.
If you made this post in 1987 I may have understood. 240 however is below par and quite slow on most pitches, especially Australian ones these days.

England need to up the ante if they are any hope of compet...hahaha...competing in the..hahahaha....sorry it's hard to say without It sounding like a joke...competing in the World Cup.

Yeah, we're an ODI killing machine. You could see that in how easily we won the Champions Trophy final.

See, I disagree there. I've made my opinion felt several times in this thread, but I still maintain that 240 was a perfectly acceptable total, and given more disciplined new ball bowling and a slightly less awesome batting lineup, it would have been enough to win the game.

While it is generally accepted that England have been woeful all summer, this does not mean they have been woeful in every single area every time they gone out there. I know it may be fun to bag the poms at every opportunity, but sometimes it just isn't apt. The bowling today was absolutely atrocious and deserves the upmost of criticism but the batting was very encouraging.

Shocker start from England. Ffs Channel 9 get your act together.
C9 are pathetic. No one cares about A Current Affair.

I was watching with some mates, and I said "If Aus are 0/40 after 5 or so overs when they return I'll be so pissed."

Needless to say they were 0/42 off just over 6. Very irritating.

Guys, I think Phoenix Fire is pulling your legs? Don't feed the troll?

"Steve Harmison is the greatest bowler of all time"?

In which universe would this be?
