Flintoff back as captain
Zac Gelman |England have reverted to all-rounder Andrew Flintoff to lead the side after Michael Vaughan succumbed to yet another injury; this time a grade one hamstring tear.
The much maligned Flintoff has had a horror tour at the helm in Australia so far – losing the Ashes 5-0.
Despite Andrew Strauss being the firm favourite to take over the role, he was overlooked by the England selectors because of his recent poor form with the England management not wanting to increase his workload.
Flintoff said he took his time considering the offer to captain England once again.
“It’s something I wanted to think about – I didn’t expect this when Michael came back,” he said.
“It was about getting it right in my mind and you shouldn’t underestimate what a big job it is.
“We are a young, inexperienced side and I wanted to get it straight in my mind.”
