A directory named \wcc will be created on your hard drive, and the files off the floppy disk transferred to this directory. 4. Change the DOS prompt to the letter of your hard drive, eg C:, and ENTER. 5. Type CD \WCC and ENTER CRICKET and ENTER PLAYING THE GAME ---------------- 1. Use the arrow keys to highlight your choices then press ENTER. 2. BATTING : a) Before the ball is bowled, you are given a choice of four different shots. While going "over the top" or playing an "attacking shot" are more risky than playing "for a gap" or a "defensive shot", you will find they are more productive in scoring runs. b) When the ball is bowled, press the space bar at the appropriate time to hit the ball (sometimes you may miss it, even if you time it right !). 3. FIELDING : a) At the start of the over, choose a bowler from the options. The bowler will either be fast, medium or a spinner corresponding to their "real life" performances. b) Choose a delivery length using the up and down arrows followed by ENTER. The lower down the red line is, the shorter the delivery to be bowled. What you choose, however, is not necessarily what will be bowled. For example, choosing a yorker, the ball bowled could end up being a full toss or a half volley. The success you have depends on the quality of the bowler in real life. c) While the bowler is running up to bowl, you have more options. For a fast bowler or a medium pacer, press the up arrow (once) to bowl a fast ball or the down arrow to bowl a slow ball. For a spinner, press the up arrow to bowl an "arm ball" or the down arrow to bowl a "wrong 'un". The default is a normal bowl which can also be achieved by pressing the left or right arrow key. You may change the type of delivery bowled any time the bowler is running up to bowl. The last key you press will be the one bowled. d) When the bowler releases the ball, use the left and right arrow keys to move the ball. Spinners automatically spin the ball, but by pressing the appropriate arrow key you can spin it even more (or perhaps less). The amount of movement you get relies not only how on many times you press the left and right arrow keys, but also the pitch type, which is shown before the match starts. e) When fielding, you must press the space bar at the right time to field the ball. Your chance of success depends on your timing, speed with which the ball was hit and a slight bit of randomness. On some occasions a fielder will field the ball automatically, but at other times a fielder may misfield or miss the ball, even if your timing is correct. Pressing the space bar at exactly the right time significantly improves your chances of fielding the ball cleanly. On most occasions, you are given only one chance to press the space bar. Pressing more than once will result in a miss / misfield. GENERAL IDEAS ON THE GAME ------------------------- * There is a lot of randomness involved in the game, as well as skill and tactical play. This ensures that you can never master the game, but it is also very easy to learn how to play and become good at. * Play your shots according to the pitch type. On a bad pitch be more conservative in your approach, but be more adventurous if the pitch is in a good condition for batting. * When bowling, it is important you bowl a good line, as well as length. Using the left and right arrow keys, try to bowl in line with the off stump. * You may like to slow the game down when bowling, not only to gain more time to move the ball, but also to give you more time to press the space bar to field the ball cleanly. * If you have a printer, you can print the score card out simply by pressing the print screen button on the keyboard. You might be able to do this for the comparison graph, depending on the printer type and its drivers. * This game has taken well over a year to develop, so the players in teams now may somewhat differ to the ones in this game. Refer to the file "README.TXT" if you want this changed, or any other improvements made to the game. Your comments and suggestions are also appreciated.
