------------------------------------------------------------------------------ READ.ME - Information file for One Day Cricket (c) 1985-1994 Kelvin King. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ All program code, artwork and the game design are the copyright property of Kelvin King and are not to be used as part of any other program. You are encouraged to use and distribute copies of this game IN EXCHANGE FOR NOT altering, adding or deleting any files. This ShareWare version of One Day Cricket operates in any of the first 3 game levels. The complete 10 level version is available for $25 (Australian). See the file 'order.frm' for more details on ordering. Queries, comments & orders should be addressed to : Kelvin King PO. Box 109 Elizabeth, 5112 South Australia SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: One Day Cricket runs on an IBM PC or compatible computer with VGA or MCGA graphics and a mouse. Microsoft, Mouse Systems and compatible mice are supported. When the program begins, it tests the speed of your computer. It may decide to avoid playing some sound effects to keep the game running at a reasonable speed. This happens when the speed is slower than a slow 386 SX computer. PROBLEMS: As this version of One Day Cricket is a shareware program, you may have acquired it in one of several ways, each with possible problems. A) PURCHASED PACKAGED by a shareware merchandiser. I encourage such merchandisers to duplicate and distribute this program. They are the most likely to get you a good operational copy with the least inconvenience. B) DOWNLOADED from a bulletin board. If you are competent enough to download the program from a board then you are armed with some skills to tackle the additional hickups this can create. C) COPIED FROM A FRIEND. Again, the files may have been downloaded from a board. Hopefully there will be no file corruption. If in the course of duplication, uploading, downloading or use on a system, any file becomes corrupt, the following message will appear shortly after the program begins (if it begins). ERROR : One or more of the files for this program are not as they should be. The program will exit to avoid any danger of damage to your system. If a file is completely missing, the program is likely to hang up. One Day Cricket has been tested extensively and is unlikely to hang for any other reason. As the program may come to you compressed in some way, I cannot give complete installation instructions. I can say what the program needs to run effectively. A) A subdirectory (of any name) should be created (on any hard drive). ( e.g. MD C:\CRICKET ) B) All the files you think have something to do with this game should be copied there. ( a file list appears at the bottom of this doc.). The program will not react to any additional files found in the same directory. I ask that you don't intentionally add any files to copies you give to friends. ( e.g. COPY A:*.* C:\CRICKET ) C) Log into the drive and subdirectory chosen, enter 'cricket' and good things should happen. If bad things happen, I recommend that you seek out another copy. ( e.g. C: CD C:\CRICKET CRICKET ) GAME LEVELS: 1 : Automatic running - a doddle. This is a slowly but surely level. It may be difficult to score quite as quickly as in levels 2 & 3 as the ball won't come on to the bat as hard. You are far less likely to lose wickets however as the fielders aren't keen on that nasty hard ball. 2 : Automatic running - easy. A little more variety in the bowling than for level 1. The fielders are still fairly timid and as you're marching off to victory you may find the boundary more often than in level 1. 3 : Manual running - fairly easy. Now you can try and see just how much you can get away with and might be in a bit of early bother with a few runouts. 4 : Moderate opposition. - 10 level version only. For the first time you're actually in a bit of trouble with the runrate. What are these guys up to? 5 : Average opposition. - 10 level version only. So you've got your running down pat and sorted out the guys in level 4. Level 5 are after wickets, not bothering to contain like level 4. 6 : Above Average opposition. - 10 level version only. Every time you think you've got it under control these guys are back at you. 7 : Good opposition. - 10 level version only. This is THE level in my opinion. (Kelvin) 8 : Difficult. - 10 level version only. It's getting pretty tough out there and occasionally quite humiliating. Can you knock them over, just now and then ? 9 : Punishment ! - 10 level version only. Well, how do you beat this lot ... can they be beaten? 10 : What a nightmare !!! - 10 level version only. This is just awesome. They don't want to simply win, they want to absolutely humiliate. Forget victory ... can mere pride be salvaged ? Here the author, who knocks level 3 around at run-rates near 14, has never won, has never cracked 200. Nobody has, perhaps no-one ever will. PLAYING INSTRUCTIONS: After selecting your team and level, you will be shown the opposition score card and the target set. You must guide your team to this target within fifty overs. The deliveries you face will vary in line, angle, pace, length, cut, swing, bounce, and pace off the pitch. The variation in bowling, quality of fielding, and minimum target set, all increase with the level selected. When batting, the left mouse button instructs a 'drive' and the right a 'pull' or 'cut' shot (according to the line of the ball). Pressing both buttons selects a block. The power and direction of a shot are determined by the timing, the part of the bat struck, and the type of delivery. If a shot is powerful enough, the field is displayed, and you are given the opportunity to score runs. In levels with manual running, hold either mouse button down to run, and release to return to the nearest crease. You may exit the game prematurely by pressing the escape key and confirming your choice to quit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FILE LIST: (these are the files for One Day Cricket) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CRICKET BAT (this is the file to run the program) READ ME (the file you are reading) ORDER FRM (a file that can be printed out to assist with ordering) 1DC EXE (program modules) KMEM440 EXE KAOS7 EXE KAOS PAL (image and data files) K2 FNT BOUNDARY DAT CIRCLE DAT AUST DAT AUST94 DAT ENGLAND DAT TEAMLIST DAT WINDY DAT NZ DAT SAF DAT INDIA DAT PAK DAT TEXT DAT ODCTITLE SCR ODCOVAL SCR ODCPITCH SCR FDRBATF0 SPR SBALL SPR LAS SPR FDRBATF1 SPR FDRUMP7 SPR FDRRUNB1 SPR FDRRUNB5 SPR FDRRUNB2 SPR FDRRUNB3 SPR FDRRUNF1 SPR FDRRUNF2 SPR FDRRUNF3 SPR FDRRUNL1 SPR FDRRUNL2 SPR FDRRUNL3 SPR FDRRUNR1 SPR FDRRUNR2 SPR FDRRUNR3 SPR FDRSTDB1 SPR FDRSTDF1 SPR FDRSTDL1 SPR FDRSTDR1 SPR CBUT SPR FDRRUNR4 SPR FDRRUNL4 SPR FDRRUNF4 SPR FDRRUNB4 SPR FDRUMP1 SPR FDRCATB1 SPR FDRCATF1 SPR FDRCATL1 SPR FDRCATR1 SPR FDRUMP2 SPR FDRUMP3 SPR WBUT SPR FDRUMP8 SPR SBDUCK SPR BLN1 SPR FDRBENR1 SPR FDRBENL1 SPR FDRBENF1 SPR FDRBENB1 SPR FDRUMP4 SPR FDRRUNB6 SPR FDRRUNB7 SPR FDRRUNB8 SPR FDRRUNF5 SPR FDRRUNF6 SPR FDRRUNF7 SPR FDRRUNF8 SPR FDRRUNR5 SPR FDRRUNR6 SPR FDRRUNR7 SPR FDRRUNR8 SPR FDRRUNL5 SPR FDRRUNL6 SPR FDRRUNL7 SPR FDRRUNL8 SPR SMOON SPR FDRBATF2 SPR FDRBATF3 SPR FDRBATF4 SPR FDRBATF5 SPR FDRBATF6 SPR FDRBATF7 SPR FDRBATF8 SPR FDRBATB1 SPR FDRBATB2 SPR FDRBATB3 SPR FDRBATB4 SPR FDRBATB5 SPR FDRBATB6 SPR FDRBATB7 SPR FDRBATB8 SPR FDRUMP6 SPR SBRAB SPR FDRLHB1 SPR RUNOVERS SPR OVLEGEND SPR BALLSHAD SPR BALLPTR SPR BATPTR SPR SBDRIGHT SPR SBDLEFT SPR SBDTOP SPR SBDBOT SPR BLN2 SPR STUMPS SPR KEEPERL SPR KEEPERR SPR BAIL1 SPR BAIL2 SPR BAIL3 SPR BAIL4 SPR SLIPLM SPR SLIPRM SPR SLIPLU SPR STUMPS1 SPR STUMPS2 SPR STUMPS3 SPR STUMPS4 SPR STUMPS5 SPR STUMPS6 SPR STUMPS7 SPR SLIPLD SPR SLIPRD SPR BALL1 SPR BALL2 SPR BALL3 SPR BALL4 SPR BALL5 SPR BALL6 SPR BALL7 SPR BALL8 SPR BALL9 SPR BALL10 SPR SHAD10 SPR SHAD9 SPR SHAD8 SPR SHAD7 SPR SHAD6 SPR SHAD5 SPR SHAD4 SPR SHAD3 SPR SHAD2 SPR SHAD1 SPR SLIPRU SPR SBCEL SPR BLOCK SPR SB4A SPR SB4B SPR SB6B SPR SB6A SPR QBUT SPR RNDFILE SPR BCWAIT SPR BCDRIVE1 SPR BCDRIVE2 SPR BCDRIVE3 SPR BCDRIVE4 SPR BCCUT1 SPR BCCUT2 SPR BCCUT3 SPR BCPULL1 SPR BCPULL2 SPR BCPULL3 SPR TOTAL = 169 files. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- END OF DOCUMENT - READ.ME for One Day Cricket. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
