If you do not have this, then you can download the latest version of DirectX (Ver 5) at : http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX/Resources/dxr_enddl.htm ************ *** SECTION 1 - Installing the demo *** Begin by extracting the files to your hard disk. This document covers the two most common methods. USING Pkunzip: ------------- >From an MS-DOS window, change to the directory that you have downloaded the CRICKET 97 ATE demo to. Type the following: PKUNZIP -d C97ATE.ZIP C:\CRIKDEMO If you wish to install to a directory other than C:\CRIKDEMO, then change all references to C:\CRIKDEMO to the desired directory path. USING Winzip: ------------ Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop. Double click on the drive that you have downloaded C97ATE.ZIP to. Navigate your way to the folder where the C97ATE.ZIP is. You may now either double click on C97ATE.ZIP to open it, or right click on it and select the 'Extract To' option. If you double clicked the C97ATE.ZIP icon, you will now have to click 'Extract' in Winzip. Now that you are in Winzip, ensure that the 'Use Directory Names' option is checked. Click the mouse in the 'Extract to:' field, and enter C:\CRIKDEMO Now click on the 'Extract' button. If you wish to install to a directory other than C:\CRIKDEMO, then change all references to C:\CRIKDEMO to the desired directory path. AFTER EXTRACTING FILES Having extracted the files, the following directories should be present: C:\CRIKDEMO C:\CRIKDEMO\LEVELS C:\CRIKDEMO\LEVELS\320 C:\CRIKDEMO\LEVELS\640 C:\CRIKDEMO\LEVELS\FMV640 C:\CRIKDEMO\VOX C:\CRIKDEMO\SAVE Double click the 'My Computer Icon', then double click the drive icon marked '(C:)'. Double click on the Folder named 'CRIKDEMO'. Once in the cricket directory, double click on the program 'Setup.exe' The CRICKET 97 ATE Launcher should now run. Click the 'Install' button. The set-up program will now run. Initially, the setup program will prompt you to select the resolution you would like the demo to run in. You will then be asked to verify your settings. Click OK when finished. The setup program will now return you to the CRICKET 97 ATE launcher. Click the 'Play' button and the demo should load and run. *** SECTION 2 - Playing the demo *** STARTING THE GAME ----------------- On the main menu, click play. After the opening comments, the game should begin. GAME OPTIONS ------------ Once the game has begun, the following keys are available. Pressing before the bowler delivers the ball will give you access to the in-game options. Pressing will access the in-game help. This explains all the in-game keys. Pressing will bring up the instant replay panel. Pressing the space bar will pause the game. Keys to will change the camera. * Use the + and - keys to alter the camera view * [ and ] will alter the pitch of the roaming cam (F3) * The stadium cam (F5) is a fixed camera. GAME CONTROLS ------------- In this demo, only keyboard control is available. The full version of CRICKET 97 ATE has joystick and mouse control options. The game difficulty can be adjusted to any of the three levels (easy, normal and hard) by accessing the Game options screen ( key). The game defaults to easy mode. In easy mode, you can either get the computer to automatically pick a shot for you or you can attempt to select a shot yourself. Pressing the CNTRL key will give you an automaticic shot selection while pressing the ALT key with either the up, down, left or right direction keys will allow you to chose your shot. Please note that the manual shot selection in easy mode will only offer 4 shot types and if the stroke does not connect with the ball, the computer will attempt to find a stroke that will work. For a full range of bat strokes, you should try the normal and hard difficulty settings. For normal and hard difficulty settings, the controls are as follows: Directions are mapped to the numeric keypad: 7 8 9 \ ! / 4- -6 / ! \ 1 2 3 Pressing a key on the keypad will move the batsman in the desired direction. When you wish to play a shot, press or in combination with a direction. This gives you 18 different batting strokes to play. Once you have completed a run, move up to run again. To slide your batsman into the crease: Press to make the batsman dive at the non-striking end. Press to make the batsman dive at the striking end. *** SECTION 3 - WINDOWS '95 NOTES *** 1 - THE DIRECTION KEYS DON'T WORK IN THE GAME If you find that your direction keys do not work while playing CRICKET 97 ATE, make sure that your Num Lock key is turned off. 2 - CRICKET 97 ATE ONLY RUNS IN FULL SCREEN MODE CRICKET 97 ATE has been designed to run as a full screen application only - it cannot be run in a window. 3 - UNINSTALLING THE GAME It's as simple as running the uninstall program provided with the game.
