RSB Semi 2 : T&T v B'dos
Saturday, October 18 2003RED STRIPE BOWL 2ND SEMI-FINAL
Trinidad and Tobago VS. Barbados at Kaiser.
Barbados won their eighth consecutive limited overs game against Trinidad and Tobago today, to qualify for the Red Stripe Bowl finals. The defending champions didn't get much resistance from T&T as they won the game by 61 runs.
The Barbados innings never really got going. Mervyn Dillon started with a superb spell of bowling which resulted in the wicket of Sherwin Campbell (1). He then came back late in the innings and got Collins to end with 2/26 off 9 overs. Dillon was very ably supported by young pacer Reyad Emrit who finished with creditable figures of 2/43 off his 10 overs.
Dwayne Smith and Dale Richards consolidated after the early loss of Campbell, but never really got any momentum in their partnership of 35. Smith was eventually caught and bowled by Ramnarine for a good 37 runs. Richards made 22 before he was caught behind off Emrit.
The Trinbagonian spinners bowled with discipline to limit the scoring. Particularly impressive was the spell of Dinanath Ramnarine, who bowled out his 10 overs on the trot and conceded just 23 runs for 2 wickets. The spell was outstanding and most importantly, Ramnarine seemed to be thoroughly enjoying his cricket, for the first time in the better part of a year and a half.
Left-handers Floyd Reifer (15) and Ryan Hinds (5) failed to contribute greatly. Hinds was out to a particularly poor shot, when he went back to late cut a leg-break from Ramnarine and was bowled through the gate. Hinds' dismissal brought Windies ODI player Ryan Hurley to the crease to join his captain Courtney Browne. Browne batted resolutely while Hurley played in his accustomed manner - aggressively. Hurley managed to hit two (2) massive sixes with slog sweeps off Dave Mohammed (0/35), but he was eventually bowled comprehensively by Dwayne Bravo for 26.
That wicket was to prove the first of four (4) for Bravo as he snared the wickets of Browne (22), Bradshaw (9) and finished the innings by bowling Drakes for 22. The young allrounder finished with 4/34. Barbados were dismissed for 175 runs in 48.2 overs.
Left-arm pacer Ian Bradshaw then wreaked havoc in the T&T top order when he had Jan (5) and Lara (0) out to successive balls. Bradshaw then had Ganga (9) caught by Collymore and Bravo (6) caught and bowled, to give him 4/10 at that stage. The Trinidad and Tobago innings stood at 23/4 and in dire straits.
Corey Collymore entered the bowling attack with Babwah in destructive mood and was hit for three (3) boundaries in his first over. Babwah and Aneil Kanhai added a good 49 runs but Bradshaw had the latter out to his final ball of his final over, to claim his fifth wicket. Kanhai made 21 and Bradshaw ended with 5/22.
Babwah continued to play his shots, but was eventually out to Collins for 30. From there, the wickets tumbled and then the rain fell. The target was well beyond the Trinidad and Tobago lower order at this stage, as they were knocked over for 114.
Drakes and Collins took 2 wickets each in support of Bradshaw's stellar effort. Collymore bowled just 2 overs for 21 runs.
The final will be played between Barbados and Guyana on Sunday.
