Agarkar in India Test Squad

Monday, October 13 2003

Seasoned India fast bowler, Ajit Agarkar was selected ahead of an injured Aavishkar Salvi for the second test match at Mohali against New Zealand.

Upcoming fast bowler, Aavishkar Salvi who is touted as a rising star for India suffered an injury to his webbing on his right hand, which happens to be his bowling hand.

Salvi unfortunately misses the test match, a match he surely would've made his test debut in, due to Lakshmipathy Balaji's poor showing in the Ahmedabad test match.

The current turn of events provide the perfect opportunity for Ajit Agarkar to cement his name in the Indian test and ODI side as India's premier fast bowling all rounder.

Agarkar who has an impressive ODI record with a 174 wickets at a solid average of 28, but his test record is rather mediocre with only 35 wickets at an average of over 46.

Despite scoring a valuable century for India in the Lords test of 2002, Agarkar has been in and out of the test squad despite being an integral part of India's ODI team.

Agarkar will be keen to make amends of his past failures in the test team, and with many young and talented fast bowling options around the country, this opportunity may very well be his last.
