Katich Earns Recall
Monday, October 13 2003New South Wales vice-captain Simon Katich has been granted a possible recall to Test cricket, selected in an expanded 14-man squad for the second Test against Zimbabwe.
Also recalled is left-arm wrist spinner Brad Hogg, who was a member of the Australian Test squad to the West Indies where he played 2 matches.
Nathan Bracken has surprisingly gained selection ahead of a host of pace bowlers vying for the 4th pacemen's slot, with his left-arm variation surely getting him the nod.
Katich's selection, however, may seem the most surprising as a cover for the injured Darren Lehmann ahead of Queenslander Martin Love.
Clearly, his superior bowling allowed for his selection.
Stuart MacGill has been included, subject to fitness, while Jason Gillespie was not selected.
The Second Test match begins on Friday.
