Sussex Sharks vs Lancashire Lighting @ The County Ground, Hove (Day / Night)

Lancashire travelled down to the south coast for a top verses bottom Day / Night clash with Sussex.

Sussex batted first and were in dire trouble from the off as both openers were removed by Peter Martin in his first over.

Murray Goodwin was first to go for a golden duck after being clean bowled by Martin and Bas Zuiderent shortly followed after just managing four runs from eleven deliveries.

Peter Martin caused more chaos when just a few overs later he removed the ever-dangerous Sussex captain Chris Adams for only six, shortly after he had hit a maximum.

At 19/3 Sussex were in all sorts of trouble and desperately needed to forge a partnership of some sorts however just as one seemed to develop into something reasonable Michael Yardy played all around one and the stumps were sent tumbling by John Wood for a measured 13.

Despite a valiant effort of Robin Martin-Jenkins of 36 from 45 balls, he became the fourth scalp of Kyle Hogg who bowled a super spell of 9 overs 4/24, completely destroying the Sussex middle and lower order.

It was left for John Wood to return to the attack to remove the bowlers however he managed to remove a stubborn Paul Hutchison for 3 from 20 balls, before Carl Hooper was introduced into the attack for the first time and soon proved his ability by dismissing the number 11 batsman with his very first ball.

Sussex: 112 All Out (32.1 Overs) - Martin-Jenkins 36; K Hogg 4/24 (9), P Martin 3/31 (8), J Wood 2/19 (9)

In Reply Lancashire Required 113 Runs To Win

Lancashire started in unsurprisingly cautious fashion after seeing what had happened to Sussex in their innings, Mark Chilton was finding the going particularly tough and was finally out with only 9 on the board from 28 balls.

Any hope of a Sussex win were soon diminished when the in form Mal Loye decided attack was the best form of defence and he made blasted his way to his 50 at around a run a ball and was finally removed by a good take behind the stumps of the slow bowling of Davis. Loye making 58 in just 64 balls and in the progress hitting 9 x 4's and 2 x 6's meaning all but ten runs came from boundaries.

The match was all but over at the fall of Loye's wicket with the score on 87/2 and just 26 runs to win, however the Sussex Sharks were determined to fight all the way and when Mark Currie's steady innings was ended just 4 runs later a few Lancashire supports were thinking surely not.

Lancashire had no real fear as the highly experienced head of Carl Hooper and fellow overseas player Stuart Law seeing the league leaders through to another victory by 7 wickets and 18.1 overs remaining.

Lancashire: 113/3 (26.5 Overs) – M Loye 58; R Martin-Jenkins 1/17 (6)
