Sri Lanka Name Squad For Eng
Thursday, November 6 2003Young fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekera has been included in Sri Lanka's squad for the forthcoming one-day series against England.
The 21-year-old could make his senior international debut after some encouraging performances for Galle.
Lanka de Silva has also been picked ahead of Prasanna Jayawardene as reserve wicketkeeper and may even make the starting XI if Romesh Kaluwitharana fails to recover from a hamstring injury.
The surprise exclusion is that of Jehan Mubarak, who scored centuries on the recent tour to South Africa and Kenya.
Selectors want to protect the confidence of the 22-year-old and instead of being pitched into the fray too early against England he will go to India with the A team with a view to recalling him for the Test series.
Mubarak's place has gone to Chamara Silva, a middle-order batsman who has been in good form this season.
The first one-day international takes place on November 18 in Colombo.
