Croft to Sri Lanka

Sunday, November 16 2003

Robert Croft has been called up to the England Test squad to add a third spin option to the 16-man squad. The Glamorgan off-spinner has built a reputation of bowling his best on the subcontinent. He joins Ashley Giles and Gareth Batty in the team and considerably strengthens the spin quotient of the English attack.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney stated, "The selectors feel the need to have an extra spinner present in Sri Lanka as past history indicates that spin might have a bigger part to play than in Bangladesh."

Croft has so far taken 49 wickets in 21 Test matches and will be keen to have more success when the first Test begins on December 2nd at Galle.
