New Umpire Rule

Friday, September 5 2003

New Zealand Cricket has introduced a new rule that under no circumstances must players at domestic or club level question a decision made by an umpire.

The rule has come into effect after NZ Cricket became increasingly concerned at the number of umpires quitting because of abuse and poor treatment by players towards them.

Speaking on RadioSport this morning, Auckland Captain Brooke Walker expressed his displeasure at the new rule & stated that "if he cannot talk to the umpire then writing a captains report is a waste of time as their is no basis for comment."
