Azhar: Again the Loser
Saturday, August 30 2003A Hyberabad court has ruled that Mohammad Azharuddin's life ban from cricket will stay in force despite an appeal from the former Indian captain.
Azharuddin, a veteran of 99 Tests and 334 ODI's, was banned for life in December 2000 following his involvement in match-fixing.
The standing of the original decision is the correct one for the game; with the message being sent out that no leniency will be taken to those who damage the reputation of the sport.
The 40-year-old will again appeal the decision, however, in a higher Indian court.
He was banned for life along with 2 other former Indian Test cricketers. None of the 3 have played since, while Nayan Mongia and Ajay Jadeja have had their 5 year bans overturned.
