Great White Hope
Wednesday, September 3 2003
In what looks set to be the most ambitious move on the Australian domestic scene in some time, Cameron White was today announced as the Victorian ING Cup captain.
White, a 20-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder, captained the Australian under-19 side to the World Cup trophy just 2 years ago.
He has a long list of credentials as a captain, from under-age sides to the Victorian Academy team as recently as last week.
He defeated highly-rated and more fancied rival, last summers vice-captain Brad Hodge to the post, taking over from Darren Berry.
Berry will stay on as skipper of the four-day side.
White has played just 12 domestic one-day matches.
