Sunday, August 31 2003

Yorkshire captain Anthony McGrath scored a defiant century to prevent his side losing against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay. McGrath, who featured in England's one-day and Test sides earlier in the season was unbeaten on 127 at the end of play, as Yorkshire reached 193-7, chasing 381 to win. At 89-5, the visitors were struggling, however both Richard Dawson and Chris Silverwood supported McGrath with determination, meaning that the two teams shared the points, taking twelve each. McGrath also scored 92 in the first innings, before making his tenth first-class century. Michael Powell and Matthew Wood also scored centuries in their sides' respective first innings, while Chris Silverwood, who took 4-56 in the first innings, and Robert Croft, 4-80 in the second, shone with the ball.
