NSW Greats Honoured
Monday, September 1 2003New South Wales will tonight (Monday 1 September) honour 4 of their greats for their service to the NSWCA as players and in Alan Davidson's case, administrators.
Davidson will become the third living patron of NSW cricket following his 55 years of association with the state side.
He has been president of Cricket NSW for an outstanding 33 years, and tonight will represent his final general meeting in the job.
The only other patrons are former Wallaby and governor of NSW Sir Nicholas Shehadie and current governor Marie Bashir.
As well as being an administrator, Davidson is recognised as one of Australia's finest all-round cricketers, with his left arm pace and punishing batting earning him legend status.
The Waugh twins and Michael Bevan will receive special honours also, with the trio being given life membership to the NSW association.
All 3 have been great batsmen for the state, with Steve captaining the side when available since 1998.
Bevan, meanwhile, has scored the most runs for NSW, surpassing Alan Kippax, while Mark will play on for one final summer with the Blues this year.
He has a testimonial match planned in November.
