SA v TAS - ING Cup

Sunday, November 2 2003

In what was a much anticipated game between the too minnow states, it was a much needed 2 points up for grabs. With both sides selecting a few youngsters with also some big named players involved, it had the potential for an outstanding game.

On what looked and seemed like a magic batting deck, John Davidson showed some of his world cup colours with a quick 59 (63) with some magnificent hitting.

Most of the top order for South Australia got a start in what was very frustrating as no one really went on with the job, JM Davison 59 (63), GS Blewett 24 (36), S Deitz 29 (41)
MA Higgs 41 (65), B Johnson 43 (48) and MF Cleary not out 28 (31). Higgs and Johnson had the perfect opportunity to post big scores but some poor shot selection and bad running led to their downfall.

Tasmania did really well to keep South Australia to 239 as at one stage SA were 1 - 115 after 22.2 overs. A middle order collapse saw them at 5-126, until the middle to lower order rejuvenated the batting and got what was to be a defendable total on a good deck.

The pick of the TAS bowlers where
Kremerskothen 10 0 35 2 (1nb) &
Griffith 10 0 47 2

With the total set is was up to the talented Tasmanian batsmen to get the runs, and unfortunately only 2 batsmen really stood up to be counted for after a much anticipated chase it was never really going to happen, with only MG Dighton 113 (139) with 10 4's and 2 6's along with DJ Marsh 46 (62) with 4 4's getting some decent scores. The next highest score other than Sundries was 10. Tasmania were all out for a disappointing 212.
The pick of the bowlers was the man who starred with the bat with remarkable figures of 8 overs no maidens 5-26 in a man of the match performance. John Davidson just simply had a great game.

So a solid win to the South Australians and a much needed 2 points

Man of the Match: John Davidson
