Pakistan v India - it's on
Tuesday, October 28 2003A Pakistan Cricket Board press release today has indicated that the long-awaited test series against India will take place early next year.
Jagmohan Dalmiya, president of the BCCI, has confirmed with the PCB that "as per the agreement between the two boards", India would tour Pakistan in February and March 2004, although indications are that the original schedule will be amended by some weeks.
India are scheduled to tour Australia in the winter of 2003/2004 with the final of the triangular VB series not taking place until mid February, so it is more than likely that the Pakistan tour will not commence until the start of March at the earliest.
The last time the two countries competed in the Test arena was in 1999 at Kolkata during the Asian Test Championship, a match embroiled in controversy which was eventually completed behind closed doors following frightening crowd disturbances.
Remarkably, it is well over a decade since a test series between the pair on Pakistani soil, a four game series which ended as a tame 0-0 stalemate in 1989.
