Flintoff out, Saggers in
Tuesday, October 7 2003A persistent groin injury has ensured that England allrounder Andy Flintoff will miss the upcoming Bangladesh Tests. Sighting the current inclusion of Rikki Clarke and Paul Collingwood in the Test squad, David Graveney (Chairman of the England selectors) stated that they decided not to go for a ' like-for-like replacement for Andrew Flintoff'.
As such, 31-year old Kent swing bowler, Martin Saggers has gotten the call. Over his career, Saggers has established himself as one of the most successful England-qualified County bowlers never to play international cricket with 301 FC wickets in 74 matches.
Saggers claimed 58 FC wickets in 15 matches this season, following 83 (in 16) and 64 (in 17) in 2002 and 2001 respectively.
Flintoff and Anderson are hoped to be fit to join the England squad for the ODI series which begins on November 7th.
