Feeble Freddy Left Sagging

Tuesday, October 7 2003

Martin Saggers' wait for an international call-up is officially over. He has been selected to replace an injured Andrew Flintoff in the English Test squad to tour Bangladesh.

Flintoff has been withdrawn from the Test match squad to rest a groin injury before the ODI series and the tour of Sri Lanka.

Kent paceman Martin Saggers, for so long one of the top bowlers on the domestic circuit, has been deservedly called up as his replacement.

Saggers has toiled consistently for Durham and Kent without any prior recognition for his 301 first-class wickets.

Selectors decided against sending a like-for-like replacement for Flintoff, citing that Rikki Clarke and Paul Collingwood are both capable of filling the breach.
