Yuvraj, Chopra in Test Squad

Sunday, October 5 2003

The Indian selectors struck two major surprises when they announced the Indian Test XI ahead of Wednesday's game against New Zealand.

Popular and flamboyant ODI specialist, Yuvraj Singh and consistent domestic opener, Akash Chopra have both been included in a strong looking test match squad.

Mumbai all rounder, Sairaj Bahatule has also been given a look into the team after extremely solid performances in the lead up matches and in the Irani Trophy.

Bahatule's team mate, Ajit Agarkar and fellow all rounder, Sanjay Bangar have been discarded from the squad. Agarkar and Bangar both haven't impressed as of late, and were discarded for the 'in form' options.

Aavishkar Salvi and Lakshmipathy Balaji are the paceman along with the in form Zaheer Khan. The trio will be India's pace battery for the first test. Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh complement the pace bowlers.
