Lightning fells Dillon
Friday, October 10 2003Leading West Indies pacer, Mervyn Dillon, and Windward Islands bowler Fernix Thomas were both hospitalized today after being struck by lightning. The incident occurred during the Red Stripe Bowl match between Trinidad and Tobago and the Windwards - at the start of the 39th over of the T&T innings.
Apparently, Dillon and Thomas were not the only players affected by the strike, but they were the only two who collapsed due to it. Dillon complained of a severe headache and earache while Thomas experienced severe burning of the back of his neck as well as a headache.
Although the two have stated that their symptoms are subsiding, they will remain hospitalized for 24 hours at the UWI Mona Hospital, under strict protocol for dealing with injuries involving lightning.
