New Zealand Name India Squad

Tuesday, August 19 2003

New Zealand have named their squad for the tour of India minus Shane Bond, with Craig McMillan recalled to the fold.

Bond will miss the tour following stress fractures in his back, with his place taken in the Test squad by Michael Mason and in the ODI’s by Ian Butler.

Craig McMillan returns following a horror run of form over the past 12 months. Richard Jones retains his place as the spare batsman.

Mathew Sinclair has been dumped after his consistent disappointments, as has Matthew Horne.

Lou Vincent or Jones will open the batting, while Nathan Astle returns to the squad from knee surgery.

Paul Wiseman retains the second spinner role ahead of Bruce Martin.

In the ODI squad, Paul Hitchcock has been recalled following his unceremonious dumping last domestic summer, where he missed the World Cup.

In return, Andre Adams has fallen victim to the axe.

As per usual Robbie Hart, Mark Richardson, Mason, Wiseman and Jones will return home for the ODI series.

Chris Harris and Chris Cairns will both take part in the ODI matches.
