NCL2 26th August

Wednesday, August 27 2003

Both Northamptonshire and Durham took advantage of a low-scoring day in the second division of the National League. At The Grange, the Steelbacks beat the Scottish Saltires by eight wickets having dismissed them for 119, including 3-20 from Andre Nel, in 40 overs. Indian batsman, Rahul Dravid scored the Scots' second highest score, with 24, however when he was trapped leg before wicket his team's hopes were dashed. Mike Hussey scored 36, and impressive Australian Phil Jaques scored an unbeaten 49 at number three, as Northants reached the target in 21.5 overs.

Meanwhile in the day-night match at the Riverside, Steve Harmison took four wickets in Durham's comfortable victory over Championship contenders Sussex. Only Bas Zuiderent and Matt Prior made any impression with the bat, scoring 25 each. Durham lost both Nicky Peng and Martin Love early, however Paul Collingwood and Thorpe steadied the ship, before both falling with the total at 102. However, they reached the target relatively comfortably, by four wickets, with just less than nine overs to spare.
