NZ Delay Pakistan Tour

Wednesday, November 19 2003

New Zealand have delayed the commencement of their Pakistan tour, with the Black Caps set to arrive a week later than originally planned.

Rather than the tourists arriving in their original destination of Karachi, they will arrive on November 27 into fellow Pakistani city Lahore.

Karachi is currently suffering from a state of high security, causing player apprehension towards the tour.

Already Craig McMillan, Scott Styris, Lou Vincent and Ian Butler have declared their unavailability for the tour.

While McMillan and Styris seem assured of their places in future squads, the decisions of Vincent and Butler threaten to stall their erratic international careers should their replacements perform at a high level.

Meanwhile, captain Stephen Fleming will miss at least half of the tour due to a torn abdominal muscle. A replacement captain has yet to be named.

Should Chris Cairns opt out of the tour, the captaincy is likely to be thrust upon Jacob Oram or Daniel Vettori.

The Black Caps will play a total of 5 ODI matches against the Pakistanis.
