Pura Cup: WA vs NSW

New South Wales have gained maximum points from their match against Western Australia at the WACA ground.

Justin Langer won the toss for the Warriors and elected to field in what proved to be a poor decision for the home side.

New South Wales made 8 declared 418, with Michael Slater smashing a brilliant 204 from just 238 balls.

Greg Mail made a polished 90 while Simon Katich pitched in with 41 as the Blues piled on the runs in the quest for a Pura Cup final appearance.

For the Warriors, Matt Nicholson took 4/96 after replacing an injured Brad Williams in the starting 11. Michael Clark took 3/106 bowling his left arm mediums.

In reply, the Warriors were bowled out for 110, with opening batsman Greg Mail taking 4/18.

Stuart Clark also took 3/38 while Don Nash and Doug Bollinger finished with 2/28 and 1/23 respectively in an impressive Blues bowling display.

Following on, the Warriors made 489 in their second innings, with Chris Rogers hitting a career-best 194 and Marcus North returning to form with 178.

Stuart Clark followed up from his 3 first innings wickets with 4/96, while Doug Bollinger and Stuart MacGill took 2 wickets each.

New South Wales then successfully chased their 182 run target for outright points, with Mark Waugh making an undefeated 60 and Michael Slater backing up from his double century with 36.

Matt Nicholson claimed 3/64 while jo Angel and Michael Clark took 2 wicket each as Western Australia fell 2 wickets short of victory.
