Martyn May Play in Final
Wednesday, March 19 2003Key Australian batsman Damien Martyn may play in the World Cup 2003 Final with the aid of painkillers.
Martyn, who has a broken right index finger, missed Australia’s Semi-Final victory last night.
Original fears were that Martyn may miss the first Test of the West Indies series, and this may still be the case.
However, in an effort to get the stylish middle-order batsmen on the field, Australian physiotherapist Errol Alcott may give Martyn painkilling injections.
Should Martyn be able to take his place in the side, Ian Harvey would be the likely victim, a sad end to what has been a good World Cup for the Victorian.
Australia’s opponent in the final will be decided tomorrow when India play Kenya in the second Semi-Final.
