Aravinda de Silva Retires
Thursday, March 20 2003Sri Lankan Cricket’s greatest servant, Aravinda de Silva, has retired from International Cricket following his country’s semi-final exit from the World Cup.
De Silva, 37, will now focus his life on business interests.
The aggressive right-hand batsman and part-time off spinner played 93 Tests and a massive 308 ODI matches.
He made his debut in 1984, serving his country for almost twenty years and throughout three decades.
Hi career highlight was the match-winning and man-of-the-match earning hundred against Australia in the 1996 World Cup Final.
Meanwhile, Sanath Jayasuriya will be offered the freedom to step down from the captaincy and hand the job on to Marvan Atapattu upon his return to Sri Lanka.
