Martyn misses Sri Lanka
Monday, March 17 2003Australian middle order batsman Damien Martyn will miss tomorrow's semi-final at Port Elizabeth against Sri Lanka.
He went into hospital on Monday for an X-ray on his right index finger, which was taped up.
It was hurt whilst fielding in the five-wicket Super Six win at Kingsmead against Kenya on Saturday.
Martyn, who usually bats at four for the World Champions, did not bat against the Kenyans, although the spokesman said that Martyn would have gone in if Australia had lost a sixth wicket.
Jimmy Maher is Australia's only other recognised batsman, but with the return of Michael Bevan after a sore back, both all-rounders Ian Harvey and Andrew Symonds are likely to play.
There is, however, speculation that Test captain Steven Waugh may be recalled for the final, should Australia beat the Sri Lankans and Damien Martyn not recover.
