Aussies to Replace Warne
Wednesday, February 19 2003Spinners Nathan Hauritz and Stuart MacGill are competing in a two-horse race to grab the vacant 15th spot in Australia World Cup squad.
Queensland-based off-spinner Hauritz and New South Wales leg-spinner MacGill have played just 8 ODI’s between them.
Reports suggest that Hauritz is the most likely of the two to gain selection following his Australian ODI selection in the past year and his recent return to form in the ING Cup for Queensland.
MacGill, meanwhile, seems certain to take Warne’s place in the Test side should the leg-spinner be suspended for the tour of the West Indies.
The ICC technical committee ruled in favour of Australia replacing Warne at the World Cup following his positive drug test last week.
