Glamorgan go top in Totesport D1

Tuesday, June 1 2004

Totesport Division 1
31st May 2004

With Lancashire not playing, Glamorgan have moved to the top of the league with a narrow victory over Warwickshire. Their total of 243 was disappointing after an 87 run partnership between Croft (54) and Powell (73), but the lower order folded against some accurate bowling, with Wagh taking 4 for 35. In reply, Warwickshire lost wickets frequently but remained in the hunt entirely due to Knight's 111 from 118 balls. However, Alex Wharf finished them off with a hat-trick, removing Wagg, Knight & Pretorius in the 44th over. His figures of 4 for 35 allowed his side to win by 13 runs and they moved four points clear at the top, although they have played two more games than Lancashire.

In the day's other game, Kent stuttered to 169 for 9 against Hampshire against some excellent bowling from Mascarenhas (2 for 29), Mullally (2 for 29), Tremlett (2 for 38) and Warne (3 for 31). Hampshire would have fancied their chances of reaching that total, which would have put them in second place, but the rain came down and the match was abandoned.
