English selectors have sprung no surprises in the 13-man squad to encounter New Zealand in the first Test at Lord's on Thursday.
As expected, under-fire duo Nasser Hussain and Simon Jones retained their places in the squad. While Hussain looks certain to play, Jones is locked in a battle with Lancashire's James Anderson for the final pace bowlers slot.
Ashley Giles returns in favour of Worcestershire's Gareth Batty, yet is not a certain starter unless the selectors choose a spin option. Rather than taking 5 seamers without a spinner, Durham's Paul Collingwood would come into the side at number 6 with Andrew Flintoff at 7 and Geraint Jones at 8.
