Lancashire Make Winning Start
Wednesday, March 31 2004Lancashire have won the first two matches of their pre-season tour to the Western Cape in South Africa with a win over Claremont last Friday (26th) and a 50-over match against Boland Academy.
Alec Swann put in a solid performance with an unbeaten 47 as Lancashire beat Boland Academy by 84 runs in Cape Town over the weekend. "He played very well", Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson commented, "But it was a good all-round performance. Other batters made scores, our pace attack was too good for their lads and we took three top slip catches."
Half-centuries from Iain Sutcliffe and Mark Chilton contributed to a healthy final score of 242-4 with a quick 43 n.o. from Captain Warren Hegg. Boland made 158 before they were bowled out by the visitors, with Glen Chapple finishing with figures of 3-14 and Dominic Cork making his Lancashire debut with a return of 1-11 from 7 overs. Sajid Mahmood and John Wood also put in valuable performances.
