Ganga & Edwards back into the fold
Sunday, March 28 2004The West Indies selectors have once more turned to Daren Ganga as he was recalled to potential Test selection, making his way into the 14-man squad for the crucial third Test against England.
The right-handed opener is essentially a backup option for Devon Smith, who sustained a finger injury whilst playing club cricket in Trinidad and Tobago. Ganga has played 28 Tests to date, with 1198 runs at an average of 23.96 with just two centuries, scored in consecutive innings against the touring Australians last year.
Also making his way back into the squad is Fidel Edwards, who missed the second Test with a back ailment. Edwards return should prove a boost to the team as he replaces the unimpressive Adam Sanford.
Ricardo Powell and Ryan Hinds are the other two names of those who did not feature at the Queen's Park Oval. Both will be fighting for a slot in the middle order, trying to displace Dwayne Smith.
The full squad is as follows:
Brian Lara (C)
Ramnaresh Sarwan (vc)
Ridley Jacobs (wk)
Chris Gayle
Devon Smith
Daren Ganga
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Dwayne Smith
Ricardo Powell
Ryan Hinds
Corey Collymore
Tino Best
Fidel Edwards
Pedro Collins
