India record historic win

Friday, April 2 2004

Day 4 report

It needed the Indians only two overs on Day 5 to get the 20th Pakistani wicket of the match, to complete a historic win, in the first Test, in Multan.

With 9 wickets down at the end of Day 4, Pakistan had little hope of making India bat again, for they trailed by 72 runs.

Irfan Pathan dismissed Yousuf Youhana for 112 with the Pakistani score at 216, as India won by an innings and 52 runs.

Virendar Sehwag was named the man-of-the-match for his mammoth knock of 309.

The next Test between the two countries will be played in Lahore. Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has been ruled out of that encounter too, thus putting Rahul Dravid at the helm once again.
