Flower To Lead MCC

Thursday, April 1 2004

Former Zimbabwe skipper Andy Flower will lead a strong MCC side against County Champions Sussex in a curtain raiser to the 2004 season.

The 3 day match is set to start on the 9th of April and will feature many of the future England prospects including the likes of Alex Gidman as vice-captain, Kevin Pietersen, Robert Key, Sajid Mahmood, Ian Bell, James Tredwell, Alastair Cook and Steve Kirby.

MCC head of cricket, Tony Dodemaide said: "I am pleased that we have been able to name such a strong side."

"We are delighted that the MCC v Champion County has been reinstated as the opening game of the first-class season."

"The game should also give the England selectors, whose advice was sought when we put the team together, a good opportunity to study the early season form of those players who may feature in their future plans."

For those of you near Lord's on the 9th and wish to go along tickets for the match will be available on the gates, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s and senior citizens.
