Kent Humbled By The Past
Saturday, April 3 2004Like many of the counties, Kent started their pre-season campaign today; unfortunately for them though it resulted in a heavy lost to an Old Kent X1 side consisting of the likes of Trevor Ward, Min Patel, M.McCague, D.Masters and Steve Marsh, who picked up an impressive a 7-wicket victory over their present day counterparts.
The match was based around the popular 20/20 format and the present day Kent side batted first in sunny conditions at the St Lawrence ground, however the innings was poor and they could only muster 147 all out off their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the Old Kent XI surpassed the 148 runs to win target with ease, coasting home with 4 overs and 7 wickets still remaining thanks solely to an outstanding innings of 88* from Trevor Ward, ably backed up by Simon Hinks with 34*.
Kent now must refocus and prepare for their remaining pre-seasons matches starting with a One Day match against the current One Day Champions Surrey also at Canterbury on the 8th of April.
