MacGill to Replace Williams
Friday, June 25 2004Leg-spinner Stuart MacGill has been welcomed back to the Australian fray, replacing injured paceman Brad Williams for the Test series against Sri Lanka in Cairns and Darwin.
MacGill's international future had been cast into doubt following his decision not to take his place in the Test squad for the tour of Zimbabwe in May. The Test series was eventually cancelled.
Despite the selectors preference for a like-a-like replacement, MacGill was seen as the most appropriate option because of the cover he also provides for number 1 spinner Shane Warne, who has been suffering from a broken left hand.
The veteran of 32 Test matches was on holiday in Venice before being tracked down by Cricket Australia.
