Slow, slow, quick, quick slow
Friday, April 23 2004There was some distinct contrasts in run rates as the 3 games continued into day 2.
Cambridge UCCE vs. Warwickshire
The biggest contrast was undoubtedly here, as all 8 Warwickshire bowlers kept it tight in the UCCE 1st innings and only a flurry from number 9 Chris Wright (28 from 41 balls) lifted the innings run rate above 1.5 per over as it spanned almost 70 overs.
In contrast, the county side batted for only 28 overs in scoring 30 runs more, as 3 more men got useful innings under their belt before a declaration left 5 overs to be bowled, which the students did without loss in pursuit of a 392 run target.
WARWICKSHIRE 361-6 (Wagh 105, Frost 80*, Bell 54, Brown 46, Trott 44, Savill 3-93)
CAMBRIDGE UCCE 131 (Wagg 3-21)
WARWICKSHIRE 161-2 (Troughton 57*, Knight 47, Hogg 44*)
CAMBRIDGE UCCE 7-0
Loughborough UCCE vs. Gloucestershire
Only 42 overs were possible here, and the students dealt with them admirably, losing only 1 wicket in adding 106 runs. This match is destined to be a draw, barring some major dealings, and the only man likely to remember it is First Class debutant Richard Wilkinson!
LOUGHBOROUGH UCCE 107-2 (Wilkinson 49*, Averis 2-20)
Northamptonshire vs. Durham UCCE
Another moral victory for the students, who batted through the day in another certain draw after the Day 1 washout. Useful contributions from opener William Burnell and Essex-contracted Justin Bishop, both of whom made career best knocks.
DURHAM UCCE 229-8 (Bishop 66, Burnell 49)
