Harmison leads four contracted
Friday, April 16 2004Contracts were the talk of reward for the triumphant English cricketers. Fresh off an historic 3-0 beating of the West Indies, four key players were rewarded with six-month contracts by the ECB. The series win represented England's first in the Caribbean in 36 years.
Man of the series Steve Harmison, top batsman Graham Thorpe and seamers Matthew Hoggard and Simon Jones are the named cricketers. The English contract system acts to ensure fitness amongst the players as well as to tend financially to the counties from which the players hail.
These four players make it twelve contracted by the ECB since September. At that time eight players - James Anderson, Mark Butcher, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Ashley Giles, Nasser Hussain, Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick - were given twelve-month central contracts.
